The Gardens of Bon Accord Terrace

Location

Aberdeen, Scotland

Date

December, 2019

The brief of this Project was to design a market garden space that could be used as a community allotment and dining area. The site was an ornamental brick terrace that once was a garden feature for entertaining, then as a market garden with allotments and eventually a yard for trucks. It is now a neglected site that offers seclusion and contemplation, popular with dog walkers and workers on their lunch.

I carefully modelled the site digitally and then worked with 3d printing to explore the production of forms responding to it. The resultant work was an engaging iterative process which allowed for an expressive deployment of the emergent narratives which began to define the project. The progress engrained in the amalgamated results drove forward the projects development. existence space and climatic conditions also influenced my development.

Models helped me work through this project reaching a understanding of the best suited form. The 3d printing skills I developed were very informative to my later approach to design.
