Material and Detail

This is a summary of a far more expansive exploration that I undertook as part of the material and detail studio of 2021 at Chalmers. All work here is my own. There were opportunities to use photogrammetry, visual programming, 3D printing and even Kuka robots. It was a truly fascinating experience which resulted in a massive expansion of my own abilities to digitally model and physically realise forms. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in this studio. I really enjoyed this, feeling that in the main I gained a huge amount of experience in new ways of imagining and realising objects.
My knowledge of the operational parameters of 3d printers was cemented. I am now capable not only of ensuring the realisation of any digitally modelled form but also of mechanical maintenance on the machines themselves modifying them as required and ensuring their smooth operation.
The course allowed me to experiment with alternate software workflows. Integrating programs into the production pipeline which might not usually be utilised in architecture. Blender and Houdini became main stays of my creative process. The main aim of the project was to design a building that could potentially be 3d printed in timber.
